Post 5: 'Changes to my study programme'
Hello everyone, as you know I am studying psychology, I am in my second year.
Psychology at the University of Chile has five years, there are specialization from the second semester of the third year in Psychology of Work and Organizations, Clinical, Educational, Legal and Community Psychology. The first two and a half years we see subjects related to Philosophy, History, Society, Politics, Community, among others. We learn to have a critical attitude, investigate, evaluate, intervene, work in teams and analyze.
Psychology belongs to the Faculty of Social Sciences, a faculty that has very nice and modern places, and very old places with a lot of room for improvement.
Regarding the academic load, it could be said that it is a lot, many believe that studying psychology is easy, and that is very annoying, because one must learn a lot, understand a lot of concepts, read a lot and above all look objectively without losing subjectivity. One must learn about diseases, about the human brain, neurons, history, authors, philosophers, research methods, disorders, pathologies, statistics, mathematics, biology, ways of expression, diagnoses and many more things that I would not finish explaining.
I would highly recommend it! But you must like it, because if you don't, you will suffer a lot. I stress myself out too much when I study and I'm in my second year, but even so, I still love it!
So far, I would only change some methodologies, because I really like group work, but I feel that this career focuses much more on group work (five or six people) than I like.
